Week of September 30

Hard to believe it's the end of September already!!!  Only two more Monday night practices before MSBOA Festival, and then things start to slow down a bit as we change gears toward indoor band and concert preparation in a few weeks.

First of all, the band did a FINE job on Saturday at Kenowa Hills.  For many of our younger members it was an eye-opener to experience that an entire side of bleachers was present just to see marching bands, and still others began to realize the amount of hard work and preparation that had gotten us to that moment.  We scored an 80.7, which is a pretty decent score for this time of the season as well as a PR for our band.  We are usually around 77-79 or so at this event, so we are definitely on the right track.  Final push this week and on to Festival next Tuesday!  Our performance at Grandville on the 12th will be the icing on the cake for the season.

It was also great to see so many parents and family members come out to cheer for us at KH.  I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and got to see several other groups perform.  I do have one request, though:  through the years I have stressed to the kids that we are NOT the Chix or the Dux; we are ONE BAND.  While I can appreciate the "go, Chix" and "go, Dux" cheers, it's really better if maybe it goes something like "go, ZEELAND."  Thanks!

Here's what's coming up for this week.  Another busy-ish time, but there are only two more weeks in the "official" season!

This article/link was forwarded to me by Jon Voss.  I'm not completely sure, but I think it sounds an awful lot like band...

Also, I saw this article that intrigued me.  This week we are going to work on some stamina and endurance with the band:

That should do it for this week.  Thanks again for joining us on Saturday.  Let me know if you have any questions: kwalker@zps.org
